Read to Ponies!  Saturday, June 24,  10 - 11 AM

Come on down! We've got 9 horses and ponies with great big ears and they love the soft sound of kids' voices. Bring (or borrow) a book and take a turn reading to a horse!

SPECIAL OCCASION: $10 pony rides will be available for kids

ages 2 - 7, weighing less than 70 pounds.

Meet the herd - JJ, Taz, Beezwax, Monday, Blue Jay, Little Miss Sunshine, Holy Mac, Lakota and Sam - and the HorsePlay staff, including Beth Springston, Ms of Ed, K-5 teacher with 35 years' experience, and Cori Nichols, Eagala certified equine assisted learning facilitator.

With the help of our gentle and curious horses, children have gained confidence, improved their reading comprehension, and developed better conversational skills. Don’t miss this incredible opportunity to inspire a love of reading in your child.

(See our group class offerings below.)

When kids interact with horses through reading, grooming, or groundwork, they also develop a deeper understanding of the horse’s emotions and needs. This allows them to practice empathy and compassion towards these majestic animals, which can then translate into their interactions with other people.

Admission is free with RSVP.

Read to Ponies is held rain or shine beneath our covered areas.

What is Reading With HorsePlay? RWH is an engaging, supportive teaching and tutoring program for readers of all ages and abilities. Together with a pony-partner, students advance through the five critical skills: phonemic awareness, decoding, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension. The movement-based model involves the whole body and mind. The horses bring a social/emotional connection, boosting cognition, retention and personal growth. When kids interact with horses through reading, grooming, or groundwork, they also develop a deeper understanding of the horse’s emotions and needs. This allows them to practice empathy and compassion towards these majestic animals, which can then translate into their interactions with other people (classmates, sibling, peers and parents.)

All activities take place on-the-ground. There is no riding involved and no horse experience is required.

RWH offers individual classes and small groups are forming now:

The Pony Group is for ages 5 and under

The Shetlands Group is geared towards ages 6 - 8.
